It is time for Navratri…the most sacred & auspicious time of the year, and we have been eagerly waiting for it! Deriving from the Sanskrit word, ‘nava’ meaning ‘nine’ and ‘ratri’, meaning ‘nights’ – it is a festival dedicated to the honor, worship & adoration of Divine Femininity & Power in the form of our Divine Mother in the Hindu religion, Goddess Durga. Durga represents ‘shakti’, female divine energy and purity. These nine days bring fortune, success and great cheer in our homes, workplace and within our consciousness. It begins on the first new moon usually late September or early October in the month of Ashwin.
It is believed that Goddess Durga fought a nine-day battle against the demon king Mahishasura, at the end of which she was victorious, symbolizing good over evil. Navaratri is divided into sets of three days to adore different aspects of the supreme goddess. On the first three days, the Mother is invoked as a powerful force called Durga in order to destroy all our impurities, vices and defects. The next three days, the Mother is adored as a giver of spiritual wealth, Lakshmi, who is considered to have the power of bestowing on her devotees the inexhaustible wealth. The final set of three days is spent in worshipping the mother as the goddess of wisdom, Saraswati. In order to have all-round success in life, we need the blessings of all three aspects of the Divine Mother; hence, the worship for nine nights.
Here are three pieces of exquisite jewelry from our collection dedicated to the three avatars of our Divine Mother.
In our daily lives, we can see the manifestation of Devi or Mother Divine, in so many forms, whether it is in the unconditional love or service of our mothers, the support of our sisters, the dutiful loyalty of a wife, the care and compassion of our daughters, the wisdom of our Gurus, and the Divine feminine strength of our own willpower.
This is the time of the year when we gift the special women in our lives with jewelry, flowers, gorgeous colorful outfits, silk sarees etc., that they so rightfully deserve, along with offering these to our Goddess idols as our form of respect and love.
The festival is full of color, light, dancing, and prayer ceremonies. Dandiya, an integral part of Navratri celebrations in Gujarat, is a dance where men and women participate with small, bamboo sticks called dandiyas. A highlight of the dance involves both men and women striking each other's dandiyas. The festival ends with Dussehra on the tenth day. Dussehra also starts the preparation for one of the most important and widely celebrated Indian festival Diwali, which is celebrated only twenty days after this festival.
May the Goddess Durga usher your life with happiness, prosperity, and good health. May you become victorious over all the problems in life just like Goddess Durga emerged victorious over the evil. Wishing you all nine wonderful nights of peace and happiness.🙏
